/ MEET THE TEAM

CHARL FRANCOIS MARAIS
Director

Charl Marais, Attorney, Director at Marais Attorneys in George, Western Cape

Charl has a special interest in property and contract law.  He has taken the lead in the transfer of several landmark properties in the city as well as multi-tiered property transactions involving underlying sale of leases and businesses. Having served on the Governing Body of a public school for 11 years, Charl has extensive knowledge of the South African Schools' Act and ancillary legislation.

Charl completed his studies at the University of Port Elizabeth (now the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) in 1998 and served his articles in George before being admitted as an attorney in 2000.  He was admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 2003 and worked for the British Department of Trade and Industry (now the Department of Business Innovation and Skills) in the United Kingdom for two years before returning to South Africa and joining the firm in 2006.

 

Charl is an avid gardener and enthusiastic cook.

DENISE MARAIS
Director

Denise Marais, Attorney, Director at Marais Attorneys in George, Western Cape

Denise heads up one of the largest deceased estates departments in the Southern Cape, helping families from across the country deal with the practicalities of losing a loved one.

 

Denise received her degree from the University of Port Elizabeth (now the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) in 1999 and completed her articles in Knysna before being admitted as attorney in 2000.  She worked as a legal advisor for the British Department of Trade and Industry (now the Department of Business Innovation and Skills) in the United Kingdom for two years and resumed practice in South Africa in 2011 when she joined our firm.

 

Denise loves travelling and is always dreaming of the next destination.

MIGAEL ROOS
Associate

Migael Roos, Attorney, Associate at Marais Attorneys in George, Western Cape

Migael drives our litigation department and helps clients solve problems in both the Magistrate and High Court.

 

Migael completed his studies at the North-West University in 2014 and joined the firm as candidate attorney in 2016.  After completing his articles, he was admitted as an attorney in 2017 and appointed as an associate in the same year.

 

Migael collects sports memorabilia and art.

SAM ALBERTS
Associate

Sam heads up our family law department, has a special interest in parental alienation and the ‘best interest of the child’ standard, and helps clients resolve family law disputes and ancillary matters.

Sam completed her studies through the University of South Africa in 2018 and joined the firm as a candidate attorney in 2019. After completing her articles, she was admitted as an attorney in 2022 and appointed as an associate in the same year. Having obtained her certification in the United States in 2014, she is one of only two certified Family Bridges practitioners in South Africa, which is an internationally renowned reunification intervention program and the preferred methodology to address parent-child alienation.  

 

Sam enjoys trail running and it is her dream to run 100 miles. Literally.
